Announcing the alpha release of XNAT 1.10 compiled on JDK21

We are excited to announce the availability of an alpha release candidate of XNAT 1.10.0, which compiles and runs on JDK 21. This is the latest long-term supported version of Java, and will represent a major win in security compliance when we get to a full production release of this XNAT version.

To limit the scope of change (and the number of breaking changes for plugin developers and the XNAT UI itself), this XNAT version is still running on Tomcat 9. This Tomcat version is not the latest, but will be supported at least through the year 2027 according to Apache.

WARNING: Please do NOT install this XNAT 1.10.0 Alpha release into your production system, as it has not been fully QA'ed.

We are distributing the alpha war file as well as a set of updated core plugins. Resources and a full announcement are available here: https://xnat.atlassian.net/wiki/external/YmQzNmYwODJiNmNjNGZkODg4OWYzZDU5NWE3MjU3Nzc

Our ask of the interested members of the XNAT admin and developer community is this: Please download and test this XNAT war and corresponding plugins in a sandboxed development environment, and provide us with feedback on what's working and what isn't. Feel free to throw your own plugins at it and see what happens. We have run a limited test suite on this release version, but have yet to perform the full set of QA that would precede a production release, and your feedback will be invaluable.
