The XNAT team is happy to announce the release of XNAT 1.7.3, now available at www.xnat.org/download. This release addresses a number of critical performance issues and introduces support for several new features. Issues addressed in the 1.7.3 release can be found in the XNAT 1.7.3 Release Notes.
Already have XNAT 1.7 and need to update? See our documentation on upgrading from XNAT 1.7.0 to newer versions. For 1.7.x to 1.7.3 upgrades, the process is as simple as replacing your 1.7 war file with the new 1.7.3 war file.
Have XNAT 1.6.5 or earlier and want to upgrade? See our documentation on upgrading to XNAT 1.7.x from older versions of XNAT. Need help with this migration process? Feel free to email us, or post to the XNAT Discussion Group.

Java applets are officially dead, as all major browsers have ended support for them. In anticipation of this event, we have refactored the XNAT Image Upload applet and the XNAT Image Download applet for XNAT 1.7.3.
Uploading Images: Users can perform local anonymization and upload image sessions to XNAT with the new XNAT Upload Assistant desktop application.
Downloading Images: Users can download image sessions into a streaming ZIP file using the new ZIP Downloader in XNAT 1.7.3.
At the 2016 XNAT Workshop, we debuted an alpha version of the Container Service plugin, which started to scratch the surface of the power of using a bundled Docker Server to run containerized processing on XNAT data. Since then, we have been working in concert with XNAT 1.7.3 development to create a version 1.0 of the Container Service plugin.
This plugin enables site administrators to run image processing and analysis routines embedded in Docker containers directly from XNAT. XNAT manages data exchange between the container and the XNAT database, providing seamless integration and automation. The new web-based interface provides a user-friendly environment for configuring the service and container.
