The latest release of XNAT contains a small but impactful set of features and fixes, including a powerful set of tools for surveying and mitigating the effects of a change in DICOM file naming behavior that was introduced in XNAT 1.8.5.
Other key features and improvements:
Improvements for data ingestion
Email notifications can be sent via the XNAT Event Service
Library upgrade to DicomEdit 6.4, including support for conditional clauses in anonymization scripts
Additional updates for security and performance
A note on DICOM file naming:
XNAT's default behavior as of this release is to rely on the uniqueness of the DICOM SOP Instance UID field, rather than derived files names, to determine how to treat incoming files. If you have noncompliant DICOM data where this field is not unique for two or more instances within a DICOM study, you should change this configuration in your XNAT. See DICOM Instance File Naming and Uniqueness for more information.
Plugin updates are strongly encouraged!
The XNAT-OHIF Viewer plugin version 3.5 and Datasets plugin version 1.0.3 have been released alongside this XNAT release to support the mitigation process, and site admins must upgrade to these versions of plugins before running file mitigation if the viewer or datasets are used.
Upgrading is (fairly) easy!
The upgrade path from XNAT 1.8 to XNAT 1.8.7 is as easy as configuring your war file for the version of Tomcat you're running and dropping the new war file in place. Upgrading from the XNAT 1.7.x line is only mildly more arduous. See the XNAT Upgrade Instructions.
XNAT OHIF Viewer 3.5 has been released
Version 3.4.1 of the XNAT OHIF Viewer, released at the end of 2022, contains support for AI-assisted annotation workflows using both NVIDIA AIAA and MONAI Label as well as support for the new Measurement Service API. Users can generate segmentations and then interactively modify them using DeepGrow and DeepEdit models.
Version 3.5 of the viewer incorporates these changes as well as optimizations for XNAT 1.8.7, including:
Optimized JSON metadata creation to speed viewer launching
ROI Contour rendering in 3D MPR mode
Volume calculation and display for contour and mask ROIs
Display calculated 2D statistics from mask ROIs
XNAT OHIF plugin version 3.5 requires XNAT 1.8.7 to run, and upgrading to this version of the viewer is strongly recommended prior to running any file mitigation in XNAT 1.8.7.
See the Plugin Version Compatibility Matrix for details.
OpenID Authentication Plugin 1.3 Beta
Version 1.3 (Beta) of the OpenID plugin adds a series of improvements, including:
Added support for PKCE OAuth methods
Allow restriction of OpenID authentication by email domain
Integrated with refactored XNAT authentication framework, enabling OpenID login links on the home page
Refined the ability to link OpenID logins with existing or new XNAT accounts
As a beta release, there are known issues with this plugin. For more details, see the OpenID Plugin Code Documentation.
