XNAT 1.7 was developed and tested extensively with Java 7. Recent releases of XNAT have also been tested extensively with Java 8, and this is the version that we currently recommend.


There is no support and has been no testing for the early release versions of Java 9Java 9 and later versions of Java have not been well tested with XNAT, so are not currently supported.

You can download the Java JDK for Windows, OS X, and most Linux platforms from the Oracle Java SE Development Kit 8 Downloads page. You can install OpenJDK on most Linux platforms using the appropriate package manager application.
