Per the discussion on Thursday afternoon, I'm adding links to my blog where the details can be found for configuring an application to authenticate using Shibboleth or CILogon 1.0.  The examples here demonstrate the initial installation and configuration of the Authentication Providers, as well as the approach for customizing the web app (Liferay) to use them.
