DicomBrowser is a useful but limited utility software tool that has several known limitations that should prevent its use as a DICOM anonymization tool. Notably, it cannot support DICOM sequences, which are often rife with PHI. Additionally, there is no planned development on this tool. We offer this open source software and documentation without warranty or support.
DicomBrowser is an application for inspecting and modifying DICOM metadata in many files at once. A single imaging session can produce thousands of DICOM files; DicomBrowser allows users to view and edit a whole session—or even multiple sessions—at once. Users can save the original or modified files to disk, or send them across a network to a DICOM C-STORE service class provider, such as a PACS or an XNAT.
You can download the source, build, and install DicomBrowser from the bitbucket git repository, or get the software ready-to-run from https://download.xnat.org/dicombrowser/
Native versions are available for Mac, Windows (32-bit and 64-bit) and Linux (Debian & Redhat).
Note: This tutorial was executed on XNAT 1.5. Several elements of the surrounding UI has been updated since then.
